Friday Night Sharing – HELL & HOPE

Hell & Hope is a movement-based laboratory that brings together four dancers and two musicians living in Denmark. The participants come from Muslim, Jewish, Israeli, Palestinian, and activist backgrounds.

The project makes space for both hope and despair within a safe and creative environment. The artists approach listening as the first essential step toward honest encounters and the sharing of each other’s realities and artistic processes. The work centers around improvisation as an act of care and listening through dance and music, and the development of a shared score that unfolds over time. The audience is invited into a sensory and reflective experience where performance and contemplation merge.

The Hell & Hope initiative was launched by Sparrow Dance, led by Esther Wrobel, and began in November 2023. The four dancers – Keren Hoffman, Aya Joy Sandberg Kanafani, Tanya Montan Rydell, and Esther Wrobel – have met weekly at Dansekapellet. The meeting with the musicians Emil Goldschmidt and Bilal Irshed marks the culmination of Hell & Hope, where all the artists come together for three days leading up to the showing. The performance offers a glimpse into this process and its choreographic potential.

There will be an after-talk with space for questions, comments, and conversations with the artists.
